coping with stress [08 Dec 2009|03:20pm]

stress is part of growing up. as we age, the more stressed we become with work, life, relationships, everything. and as we age even older, stress level goes down until we reach our second childhood. hehe. ok, so why am i talking about stress? because a lot of people i know are super stressed lately. well, it’s not that it’s a good thing but it’s a little bit comforting knowing i’m not the only one who wants to burst into pieces once in a while.

talking about stress, i remember receiving a book from my manager last christmas called “if i really wanted to beat stress, i would…”. it’s a very small book, listing down a few “next steps” to beat stress and enjoy life more. and without any copyright infringement intended, i would like to list down a few of those here that struck me back when i first read the book.

So…if i really wanted to beat stress, i would:

…let go of the past.
…refuse to live in the future.
…count my blessings.
…delegate, delegate, delegate.
…take off my watch.
…just say no.
…call a friend.
…FAIL.
…forgive myself.
…do nothing, then rest afterwards.
…stare at a star.
…keep a journal.
…let God be God.

if you want to get into the details, i suggest you get the book! but just to summarize, i guess it all boils down to stepping back and looking at the big picture —- life is bigger than our worries and problems. it’s ok to fail, it’s ok to stumble, it’s ok to look bad in front of others. it’s ok to be disappointed and to disappoint others. in the end we’re just human and we’re really just trying to live life the best way we can.

i’m happy it’s Christmas time. i don’t mind being stressed for the next two weeks…as long as i get to enjoy a stress-free Christmas when i go back home to Cebu for the holidays. let’s get it on!!!
